Carrizo Plains National Monument was a "midnight" directive by exiting President Clinton. Wintering nearby, the justification appeared to be mostly political. However after the two great rain seasons of 2004-05 and 2005-06, the wildflower carpet provided justification for the declaration.

The "Carrizo Wildflower Carpet" image is part of the Sealth body of work which are digital images of landscapes, scenics, and the human form and are based on locations in the OCarrizo Plains, San Luis Obispo, Big Sur, Eastern Sierra, High Sierra and Central Coast of California.
