This spectacular, many-square mile blanket of Snow Bush only happens as
a phase of recovery from a major forest fire that destroys nearly all the trees.
A forest fire is a disaster especially in the Yosemite National Park. However the restoration of the forest
does have its highlights. Some
shrubs get the opportunity to temporary dominate in the succession of recovery. In 2005
the Snow Bush were the dominate shrub at this fire site east of Crane Flat. Snow Bush is also called
Whitethorn for most of its branches end in sharp points; obviously a challenge to enter.
The "Snow Bush Blanket" image is part of the Sealth body of work which are digital images of landscapes, scenics,
and the human form and are based on locations in the Crane Flat, Yosemite National Park,
Western Sierra, High Sierra and Central Coast of California.
