In the Eastern Sierra, deciduous Poplars are represented by the Black
Cottonwood and the Aspen. Because of their water needs and
elevation range, they are seldom found together. McGee Creek at
the boundary with the John Muir Wilderness is one of those
special places. Except for one secluded spot, the stream is an
almost impenetratably dense thicket of both poplars. So when they
turn colors and their leaves fall they sometimes form very thick
blankets of colorful leaves.
The "High Sierran Beauty" image is part of the Sealth body of work which are digital images of landscapes, scenics,
and the human form and are based on locations in the McGee Creek, Long Valley, Mammoth Lakes Area,
Eastern Sierra, High Sierra and Central Coast of California.
