Along the northwest shoreline of Horseshoe Lake, in the Mammoth Lakes Basin,
all the trees are dying from carbon dioxide vented from the sides of Mammoth Mountain
along the western edge of the Long Valley Caldera.
Even in death this fallen tree reveals very interesting roots.
