Before off-road vehicles devegatated their portion of the Oceano Dunes, many people lived there. During the depression these people established a bohemian community of free spirits and "casual" beach cover. The Dunites' "cabins" and other signs of occupation are now totally obliterated. However when the lighting is just right, their spirit can be sensed.

The "Oceano Dunite" image is part of the Sealth body of work which are digital images of landscapes, scenics, and the human form and are based on locations in the Oceano Dunes, San Luis Obispo, Big Sur, Eastern Sierra, High Sierra and Central Coast of California.
