I did find a method that worked for me and submitted it to the late lamented Quicksilver Magazine (later Tube and Wire). Below I have copied excerpts from that article which was a modification of the instructions in my excellent Quicksilver Assembly Manual. To get the maximum amount of cable available; Thread the jam nut ALL THE WAY onto the cable adjuster. Thread the cable adjuster ALL THE WAY into the remote closure screw. DO NOT TIGHTEN. Have an assistant apply maximum tension to the other Choke Cable. Compress the spring into the closure screw by pushing on the Brass Sleeve. Attach the Piston to the ferrule located at the end of the cable. Back off the Cable Adjuster and Jam Nut approximately half way up the Cable Adjuster. You will not need as assistant for the second one, as the first assembly will maintain tension for you. When screwing the completed assembly into the Carburettor, it is easier if the spring is compressed by applying tension to the outer end of the Choke Cable. (Either have an assistant pull on the wire, or use the choke handle if already installed). Hope this helps. I finally took the advice of various gurus and went the primer route. After many difficult starts and heartburn, I now have the knack, and believe in primers. The only advantage of the "choke" system, as I see it, is that no skill is required. However, you do need a healthy battery to generate sufficient rpms for the fuel enrichment circuit to function effectively. PER ARDUA AD ASTRA
