Holy Spirit Positional Relationships

The Three (3) Prepositional Relationships
We have with the Holy Spirit Are:
WITH IN UPON
As prepositions show Positional relationships (i.e.: over, under,
in, on, upon,,by, with, etc.) so the Holy Scriptures show three
separate positional relationships that we have with the Holy Spirit:

1. With
First we have an empty glass sitting in a pool of water.
Have you ever tried to put an empty glass in water? The water
always pushes the glass until it tips over and water enters the
glass. It is interesting that the Holy Spirit is typified by water
in the scriptures (John 4:14, 7:37-39) and the drinking
of the water to get it inside of us. Here we have an empty glass
surrounded WITH water.

2. In
In the second picture we have the glass sitting with the water
IN the glass. Here the glass is much more stable.
The water being inside the glass has given it balance. So to in
our lives when we have been "Born from Above" and have
the Spirit dwelling IN us have a better balance and perspective
of life.

3.Upon
The third glass starts out with the water IN it. It is then placed
under the faucet. The faucet is turned on and the water pours
out UPON the glass thus over filling it to
the point where the water flows out from the glass. Jesus called
this the Immersion (baptism) into the Holy Spirit, the promise
of the Father.
This is the visual that the Lord gave to me. It helped me to visualize
the concepts involved. Now we will search the scriptures and go
in to more detail concerning these three positional relationships
we have with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit WITH Us
- READ:
- Matt.10:1-23, Mark 3:13-19, 6:7-13, Luke 9:1-6, 10:1-12,
John 4:14, 14:16-29, 16:7-15
The Twelve (12) and the Seventy (70) were sent out (Apostles)
and WITH the Holy Spirit performed many miracles - cast
out demons, raised the dead, healed the sick. The Holy Spirit
was WITH them to perform (The manifestations of the Holy
Spirit, 1Cor.12:7-11). They were neither Born Again nor
had they been Immersed (baptized) in the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said,
"I will ask the Father and He will give you another comforter,.
the Spirit of Truth,..you know Him because He abides WITH
you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans - I will
come to you."
(John 14:16-18)
The Holy Spirit was WITH us when we were in the world to
convict us of sin, to bring us to the saving knowledge of Jesus
the Messiah. (John 16:7-15)
The Holy Spirit IN Us
- READ:
- Eze.11:19, 18:31, 36:26-27, 37:14, Zech.4:6, John 3:3
-8, 4:14, John 7:37-39, 14:12-29, 15:26-27, 16:13-15, 20:19-23,
1Cor. 2:12-16, 12:13.
There are many other scriptures. Research the words (in) (drink)
& (water).
Jesus said,
"Unless one is born from above he cannot see the Kingdom
of God. Unless one is born of the water and the Spirit he cannot
enter into the Kingdom of God. That which is born of Spirit is
spirit."
Later on He said,
"Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall
never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become
IN him a well of water that springs up to eternal life. If any
man is thirsty let him come to me and drink. He who believes in
Me (as the scriptures said) 'from his innermost being shall flow
rivers of living water.'"
This He spoke of the Spirit (whom those who believed in him were
to receive), for the Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was
not yet glorified.
Jesus said,
"I will ask the Father and He will give you another comforter,..the
Spirit of Truth,..you know Him because He abides with you and
will be IN you. I will not leave you as orphans - I
will come to you. After a while the world will not behold
Me but you will behold Me. And because I live you will live also."
Jesus was crucified and died. On the first day of the week he
arose from the dead and went to the Father and returned
and appeared in the midst of His disciples.
He said,
"Peace be with you, as the Father sent Me I now send you.
RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT."
(A Command!)
He breathed on them then said,
"If you forgive the sins of any, their sins are forgiven.
If you retain the sins of any their sins are held against them."
(The first Commission)
WHAT HAPPENED HERE??
Jesus had told his disciples that His Spirit was WITH them,
but when He went to His Father He would return and give them another
comforter (the Spirit of Truth) Who would be IN them. It
was at this time (the day of the Resurrection) that the
disciples were born from above. The Holy Spirit now lives IN
them. By the One Spirit we were Immersed into One Body...and
have all been made to drink of the One Spirit. Do you not
know that you are the Temple of the Living God that His Spirit
lives IN you!?! (Note here it says "immersed into
One Body" not immersed into the Spirit. This scripture is
not speaking of the immersion [baptism] of the Holy Spirit.)
The Holy Spirit UPON Us
- READ:
- EX.28:3, 31:3, 35:31; Duet.34:9; Num.11:16-29, 1Sam.10:
6,10, 11:6, 16:14, 19:20,23; 2Ki.2:9,15; Judg.3:10, 6:34, 11:29,
13:25, 14:19, 15:14; Isa. 44:3, 59:21; Joel 2:28-29; Hag.2:5;
Matt. 3:11-17,4:1; John 1:32-33, 3:34, 4:24; Acts 1:3-5, 7-9,
2:1-21,37-47, 8:14-17,26-40, 9:11-19, 10:44-48, Acts 11:14-18,
16:27-34, 19:1-7
Jesus said to His Disciples,
"Wait for what the Father has promised.....for John immersed
with water but you shall be immersed in the Holy Spirit not many
days from now...but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit
has come UPON you."
The first mention of "the Holy Spirit being UPON" is
in Num. 11:16-29 especially verse 29 where
Moses says,
"Would that ALL the Lord's people were Prophets, that the
Lord would put His Spirit UPON them."
Joel said,
"In the Last days, God says, 'I will pour out of My Spirit
UPON ALL flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy...'"
The Old Covenant Prophets could not prophesy unless the Holy Spirit
was UPON them. After the Temple Priest were immersed in water
(for purification) and anointed with Oil (the symbol of the Holy
Spirit being UPON them) they could then serve in the Temple acting
as Priests to God and Prophets to the People.
Jesus when He was born was conceived of the Holy Spirit and was
called the Son of God. He had no need to be born again as He already
was born from above, yet when He was immersed in water by John
the Holy Spirit came UPON Him in the form of a dove. It was after
the immersion both in water and in the Spirit that He was led
by the Spirit and performed His great miracles.
In the New Covenant on the day of Pentecost (the day of celebrating
the giving of the tablets of the Law to Moses) the Ones Called
Out were praying together when the Holy Spirit came UPON them
just as Jesus promised. They spoke in new tongues and prophesied.
As more people were added to the Ones Called Out they were being
immersed in water after which (or during which) the Holy Spirit
would come UPON them and they would speak in tongues and prophesy.
Being filled with the Spirit = Having the Holy Spirit Upon You
= being Immersed in the Holy Spirit. (These are all different
ways of saying the same thing and are used interchangably and consistantly in Scripture.)
In the Holy Scriptures there is not an Immersion (baptism) "BY"
the Holy Spirit nor an Immersion "OF" the Holy Spirit. It
is always: Immersion "IN" the Holy Spirit. You will have to check the Greek, but if you do you will see this is true.
