Ode to Li'l Spotty

Li'l Spotty fast and furry,
Ran the canyon in a hurry.
Li'l Spotty fat and furry,
Ran the canyon in a fury.

Spotty and his friend Big Red,
Knew that soon one would be dead.
Ran the edge of canyon rim,
Soon the lights ere' would grow dim.

Ran away this time veering,
As the hunters they were nearing.
Then the shout,
Went all about.

PIGS !

Pandemonium did erupt,
The words shouted were abrupt.
Get in the truck,
Don't trust your luck!

You can catch them if you hurry,
Get Li"l Spotty so fast and furry,
Or get his partner, that's Big Red.
Soon one or the other will be dead.

Shoot the spotted one came the cry.
Shoot him NOW and make him die!
Out of the truck the hunter jumped,
Scope caps popping and bolt pumped.

Use the hood for a rest!
Come on, man, do your best!
Two days and a half the hunter waited,
Now with breath held and bated,

Aimed the magnum .300 all,
Aimed and fired, Spotty did not fall!
On he ran over the rim,
On to safety and good for him.

But oh, what's this, please wait Big Red,
I'm coming too, I'm not dead.
I'm coming with you 'round the rims,
Even though now my vision dims.

How could he hit me, I was gone.
One half second and I was done.
Four more steps from the hump,
When in my ribs I did feel a bump.

And out my off shoulder did it fly,
A failsafe bullet and I did DIE!
Happy did I live without fakin'
But now I am -simply BACON!
