LIMBERT - Frank P., 80, of Closter, died Sunday June 9, 2002 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Englewood and was a life long resident of Closter. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving as an Aerial Engineer aboard a B-24 Liberator Heavy Bomber. While on a mission over Germany, he saved his severely damaged aircraft and the lives of his crew members. For his heroic actions, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Before his retirement in 1990, he served as Chief Operating Engineer for 550 Broad Street Associates in Newark. He was a past Chief and an active member of the Knickerbocker Hook and Ladder Company, the Closter Volunteer Ambulance Squad, the Alpine Tenakill Tilden Masonic Lodge, and the Closter VFW. He was also an active member of the 8th Air Force Veterans Historical Society. He is survived by his wife Gertrude, sons Frank of Chestnut Ridge, NY, and Craig of Goshen, NY, a daughter Elizabeth of Imlaystown, NJ, a brother Brad of Abbot, ME, a sister Audrey of Dumont, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Arrangements have been made at the Moritz Funeral Home, 348 Closter Dock Road, Closter, NJ. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday June 12, from 2-4 and 7-8:30 PM. A service will follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The Closter Fire Department, The Closter Volunteer Ambulance Squad or The American Cancer Society are requested.
