Dear classmates and friends of 1955,

On February 2nd, 2002 an ad-hoc "start-up committee" will meet to discuss plans for our "50th Class Reunion", in 2005, the last one ever for CHS.

The reason that we are beginning to plan this "milestone" event so early is to avoid any confusion or disappointment with the other classes that we have usually shared our periodic reunions, before our actual reunion year. This very meaningful and special reunion should be celebrated in 2005 to properly recognize its importance and encourage the best attendance.

Your comments, ideas and opinions on the below four items, or any other issues, will help us put together the most memorable and enjoyable reunion you ever attended.

1. Who should be invited? We will consider the following:

  1. Obviously, the Class of 1955 and companions
  2. The classes of 1953,’54,’55, ‘56, that may want to celebrate their 50th in 2005
  3. Folks that were at any time part of the class, even if they didn’t graduate w/ the class
  4. Spouses/family of deceased graduates, faculty/staff and friends of the school

2. Should it be a week(end) with both formal(semi) and informal events and when? Please give us your suggestions, e.g., Circle Line tours/dinner - foliage tour Hudson (Boat or bus) - picnic (tailgate) - brunches - small gatherings (hosted or non-hosted) - exclusive, simple and small? October has traditionally been the month for reunions and fits nicely between the holidays.

3. Should we hire a "Reunion company" to run the main affair, along with having them arrange hotel accommodations, handle finances, advertising, correspondence/tickets, greet/collect tickets, decorations, welcome packets (brochures, maps), etc.? This was done for the 100th Anniversary/ Reunion with mixed opinions but we learned a lot and maybe could utilize their services better the second time around. This is done by most reunion classes but...

4. Would you "Offer" to be on a committee or help in any little way? This would be encouraging and a very welcomed gesture. I live in California and yet was very able to help with the A&F "100th" event in 1999, as did others that live a long distance from Closter. The "volunteers" didn’t burnout, in fact, they felt real good about having participated and have continued to socialize and party, at various informal A&F gatherings every year since.

Please respond by Email or "snail mail (USPS)" ASAP. Please do your best not to let anything interfere with attending - stay in touch and let us know of any address or email changes if you are or are not attending. We will update you as the plans develop. If you didn’t receive this by E-mail it’s because we don’t have your E-address - it saves us time and money to use Email. Thank you.

Fond regards,

Bob Rothmann, Representative of the ad-hoc "start-up committee"

Tentative ad-hoc "start-up committee" members: Bob Campbell, Arline Brue Clifton, Joan Wilson Huff, Janet Short Korsgen, Lisa Fuchs Kurtz, Grace Tolhurst Litchfield, Terri Caruso Stasko
