Commander J. Kelly

Leroy S. Mead Post 111

American Legion

Closter , NJ

Dear Commander and Post members,

On behalf of the Closter Alumni and Friends of the schools I want congratulate the Leroy S. Mead Post 111 for its outstanding example of loyalty and faithfulness to country and Armed Service’s personnel.

We also want to thank you for your efforts to instill pride, character and citizenship within the youth of the area through the various programs that you administer and/or support.

As Theodore Roosevelt said "... to educate a person in the mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society." So it is, in part, through your fine example and your continued efforts that the young people of the community will enter the adult world with a higher sense of morality and hopefully enjoy a higher and safer quality of life.

The Northern Valley area can still be proud to have a comparatively moral atmosphere in these times of seemingly declining morals as seen in other part of the country. We, the alumni and friends, recognize what you do- it is no small effort- especially in such a busy and mobile society. We want to encourage you to keep up the battle to win the war of adult apathy that has invaded our society and undermines our youth’s future and the well being of the community.

We have enclosed a donation of $300 as a token of our appreciation and to show our support of your organization.

Very Sincerely,

Robert R. Rothmann

"Closter Alumni and Friends of the schools" representative
